Our final stop before heading back to Amsterdam was Bergen, the second largest city in Norway. Bergen in known for its rain, but we were disappointed (not) by blue sky and a few puffy, white clouds. We got off the ship directly in front of Hakonshallen, a 13th century ceremonial hall and fortress.
The Rozenkrantz Tower, also part of the fortress grounds, was built in the 1560’s.
Next, we walked the waterfront, Bryggen, former home of the Hanseatic League and visited the fish market.
We also hung out for awhile at Domkirke and ambled past a wooden building being restored which we speculated was an old firehouse.
While it lacked the sheer natural beauty of some of our other stops, Bergen was actually my favorite.
