Questura

Today we took one more step on our journey to legitimacy. Each of us had to appear at the Questura, the local police station. First we went to the Questura which is where all of the paperwork we mailed two weeks ago went. We handed over four passport photos, were electronically fingerprinted and then given another piece of paper with a time for an appointment with .... the Questura! It turns out that we were at the immigration office. We had to then go to the main station to register with the local police. Fortunately, they had given us an immediate appointment so we walked down the road another hundred meters to another office where we were electronically fingerprinted, again. It would seem that the two places don' t share their information. We stamped and signed and signed and stamped and were given back one of the pieces of paper we were given in the first office. Were we done? NO! We then had to go back to the first office and turn in that multiply stamped and signed paper. Are we done now?! Again, NO. The next step is to return to the first office (immigration, in case you have lost track) and pick up our official permisso card. Our appointment for that is 6 October. Then, and only then, will we finally be legal to live in the country.

Then we will have all the fun of trying to officially own a car, but that is a whole other can of worms.
